Wiveliscombe RFC today celebrate the news that its players will train with Bath Rugby after QBE announced the winners of this year's Rugby Pro competition.
The Wiveliscombe RFC under 15's will be training with Bath Rugby courtesy of QBE, Official Business Insurance Partner of Premiership Rugby. They are one of twelve grassroots rugby clubs across the country to be awarded a training session with top Premiership Rugby players and coaches, as well as £1,000 worth of training equipment. The QBE Rugby Pro training sessions will offer specialist advice on technical and physical rugby skills which have been identified by each winning club as areas for their improvement.
QBE, the specialist in business insurance, awarded the prizes to clubs who demonstrated how winning the training session and equipment would benefit the development of the club. The judges were impressed by Wiveliscombe's community spirit and continued growth despite having a small, rural catchment area. Their enthusiasm and understanding of the game also shone through in their entry.
Paul Ridge, Wiveliscombe RFC under 15's coach said: "We are so proud to win this fantastic prize. Wiveliscombe is a small but rugby mad town and we have strong links to the local community. Our resources as a club are limited, but it will undoubtedly benefit our players and coaches to train with professionals from Bath Rugby."
Chris Bevan, Commercial Manager of QBE's Bristol operation, said: "We are delighted that Wiveliscombe RFC has won. Their entry was a great example of how sport helps inspire the community, and we hope that the contribution of a specialist training session and new equipment from QBE will help the club to develop and introduce more people to the game."
In its second year, and going from strength to strength, the competition was judged by a panel which included members of the media, Premiership Rugby and QBE.
