Why not give our award winning Premiership Rugby HITZ programme a try?

14 August 2014

Aged 16-19? Thinking of leaving school this summer and unsure what to do next? Why not try the Premiership Rugby HITZ programme?

With A Level results published today and GCSE results due on August 21st, it’s a stressful time of year for 16 – 19 year old school leavers. However, post 16 education no longer means staying at school full-time: you can also go to college, take up an apprenticeship or a part-time training course.

The HITZ programme, allows you to gain a Level 1 Diploma in Sports and Active Leisure. The sports course, delivered at Bath Rugby’s Recreation Ground, consists of a mixture of taught sessions, activities with time spent on the rugby pitch, in the gym and other sporting sessions with one of the professional HITZ coaches. The course will equip you with all the skills you’ll need to progress into work, an apprenticeship or further education.

All courses offer the opportunity to up skill your functional English and Math’s whilst working within the vocational area as well as being a part of Bath Rugby itself! During your time on course you will have the opportunity to volunteer as part of your learning at home match days and other events run by Bath Rugby Foundation and Premiership Rugby.

Through the HITZ programme, we aim to help you develop confidence, improve your communication and teamwork skills, achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Sport & Active Leisure and develop your Math’s & English skills. We provide weekly personal social development sessions and 50% of your time is spent learning outside of the classroom in practical sessions.

Stephen Barber, HITZ Officer for Bath said, “A-Level & GCSE results day can be very stressful, particularly if you don’t get the results that you were hoping for, but there are many options out there for post 16 year olds and it’s important to take the time to explore the opportunities available. The HITZ programme offers an alternative to the traditional full-time education route.”

The award winning HITZ programme tackles some of the greatest challenges facing young people today - unemployment, crime and disillusionment. Delivered nationally by Premiership Rugby and funded by partners Barclays, Comic Relief, Land Rover and Wooden Spoon, HITZ uses rugby to increase young people’s resilience, self-reliance and confidence. It gives them the skills to get back into education, vocational training, apprenticeships and employment.
