University of Bath suffer defeat at the hands of Midlands rivals Loughborough

30 January 2020

Team Bath’s men’s 1st XV were pushed hard by Loughborough in their first BUCS Super Rugby match of 2020, with Bath Rugby Senior Academy’s Will Butt was part of the visiting side.

The Blue & Gold scored a second-half consolation try in their 38-5 defeat away to Loughborough. The team conceded a converted try within two minutes of kick-off, and their rivals were relentless in maintaining pressure to open up a 19-0 lead at half-time.

The home side started the second half in equally strong manner, adding two more tries inside the first eight minutes to stretch their lead to 31-0.

Winger Sam Kennaugh managed to get Team Bath on the score sheet but it wasn’t enough to build momentum as Loughborough went over again to seal a 38-5 victory.

The University of Bath men will now look ahead to a crunch clash away to Northumbria next Wednesday (5 February), where they will look to seal their first win of 2020 against their hosts who sit six points below the Blue & Gold at the bottom of the table.
