University of Bath were edged out 25-18 by Durham University but claimed a losing bonus-point as the sides met at Priory Lane in the BUCS Super League on Friday 4 October.
No Bath Rugby players featured in last week’s BUCS Super Rugby match as they helped to prepare the Blue, Black and Whites for the Premiership Rugby Cup clash against Gloucester Rugby on Friday evening.
The Blue and Gold’s returned to Rosslyn Park RFC for another Alumni fixture encounter with Durham University, with both teams well supported by their past and present students.
Durham got the early momentum with some real intent from their attack, which lead to an early 3-point advantage from the tee with a wide effort from Wyman. [3-0]
Bath got themselves the first score of the game with a strong scrum allowing Ed Rimmer to make a blistering peel away break from the base of the scrum and after an offload out wide, Luca Mignot was the beneficiary to score in the corner. [3-5]
The Blue and Golds struggled to find a foot hold in the game after their score with Durham leading a spell of territory and possession, which led to two quickfire scores for the hosts. Both conversions were missed by Wyman. [15-5]
Bath responded well with a deadly driving maul try, but it was Durham and Wyman who responded with another penalty from the tee to give the home side a 13-point lead at half-time. [18-10]

The Blue and Gold’s got the first points of the second-half despite continued pressure from Durham, with Benn Morris slotting a penalty through the sticks. [18-13]
After reducing the deficit to just five points, Bath’s inconsistencies led to the visitors defending their own line with consecutive scrums awarded, which led to the referee eventually awarding Durham with a penalty try and an extended led of 12 points. [25-13]
The final stage of the game belonged to the University of Bath, with numerous maul drives and a handful of reoccurring infringements from the Durham pack.
The Blue and Golds finished a classy score in the corner off the back of a collapsed maul, finishing the game with losing bonus for the University of Bath [25-18].
