Having only signed for Bath Rugby at the start of this Aviva Premiership Rugby season, Sam Underhill is yet to experience playing for the Club at Twickenham.
But he’s already fully aware of the rivalry the West Country club have with Leicester Tigers ahead of their meeting at Twickenham on April 7.
Having missed Bath’s 27-23 victory at Welford Road in Round 1, the 21-year-old back row has been quick to lean on the senior plays at the Rec to get him up to speed.
“Tapping into the older boys is one of the best ways to adapt, the guys that have been around Bath for a long time, especially local players,” he said.
“Those are the guys that know what it really means to them, and you take on board that meaning and importance to the club as a whole.
“I think those guys are really good at getting that message across, and just understanding the importance to the fans, you can see what it means to the club and everyone who works there.
“I don’t think it’s hard to see how much it means to people and that does help when you get on the pitch.”
Underhill has enjoyed a rapid rise to the top, he spent two seasons at Ospreys before signing for the Blue, Black and Whites and is currently with England for the NatWest Six Nations.
He’s already made his international debut having been called up for the Red Rose’s summer tour to Argentina and again for the autumn internationals.
Twickenham could be familiar territory for the flanker by April but he’s still excited to run out at Rugby HQ in club colours.
“The general consensus is that it’s a great occasion,” he said.
“Especially at Twickenham, it’s a very exciting opportunity to play in front of what will hopefully be a great crowd.
“They’re the sort of games the boys really look forward to playing in. I hope it will have a good buzz around it and that will contribute to the game.
“The atmosphere contributes so much to the rugby on the field, it gives the boys a lot of energy.
“The atmosphere and intensity of it all gets raised by the buzz around the place so it should be a good one.”
