Trauma Recovery Centre are one of Bath Rugby’s three local Charity Partners this year, and you can find out more about them here…
Trauma Recovery Centre (TRC) began in 2011 to help children and young people who have experienced trauma. The TRC’s HQ centre in Bath and small centre in Bristol support about 100 children and young people a week with play, art, music and creative therapy to help them explore, process and recover from the awful experiences they have endured.
TRC helps children who have been sexually abused, trafficked, suffered neglect, experienced domestic abuse, the death of a parent or other traumatic experiences. We have a team of qualified trauma therapists, specially trained teachers and a purpose built centre with nine therapy rooms, a soft play area, a 12 foot castle and loads of equipment! Clients can come for 12 weeks through to four years, and whilst the children have their session the parent(s) are supported with specialist parenting groups.
The children at Oakside (TRC's education project) come to TRC as their school for two days a week so we can help them begin to learn again and recover from their trauma, having often been excluded from school.
One student commented on how she views herself having been at Oakside for two years:
"I’ve grown taller. I didn’t used to view myself well... I used to think of myself as ugly, worthless, used, broken. Now I'm happy, excited, nice." 16 year old student.
