Beechen Cliff School U15s will take to the Rec turf on Tuesday 23rd January when they take on Uffculme School (Devon) in the Quarter-Final of the national NatWest Vase, kick-off 14:00.
Entrance to the game is free, and Beechen Cliff go into the knock-out stages on a rich run of form. The young side features eight Bath Rugby Development Player Programme players and have scored an impressive 236 points in five games.
“We’re more than happy to offer the use of the pitch at the Rec to Beechen Cliff for them to host their Quarter-Final,” commented Bath Rugby’s CEO, Tarquin McDonald. “They have done very well to get through to this stage given how many schools compete, and we’re excited to be able to support them.
“Being able to support this sort of event for our local community is something we want to be able to do more often, and the stadium redevelopment will hopefully enable this. We want to be able to offer facilities to the city as a whole, not just for rugby use.”
Patrick Macdonald, Director of Sport at Beechen Cliff added: “The boys are incredibly excited about playing at the Rec. We enjoy a close working relationship with the Club, and were delighted to receive their offer to play on the main pitch. The team have worked really hard throughout the year to get through to this stage, and this will be a great experience for them.”
The Club and the School work together to develop young rugby players in the area through the Academy and Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme. The partnership provides a state school pathway to high level rugby for talented youngsters, delivering outstanding rugby and academic development for players to achieve their potential both on and off the pitch.
Andy Rock, Academy Manager at Bath, said: “We have relationships with schools throughout the area and the work we do with Beechen is part of a wider development programme. There is a complete development pathway in place for players aged 13 to 21 that sees us identifying and working with promising players throughout the region, and developing home-grown players continues to be a focus for us.”
Beechen Cliff will play Uffculme School at the Recreation Ground on Tuesday 23rd January, kick-off 14:00. Entry for spectators is free.
