With the players at the Rec going through their paces at the Captains Run the Community team seized the opportunity to sneak 100 local school children in to Farleigh House to take part in the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools tag festival.
The schools, Rode Primary, Beckington First School and Norton St Philip Primary have enjoyed 5 weeks of coaching which was rounded off with a festival at a gloriously sunny Farleigh. With the games taking place on the new Bath Rugby training pitch the children put on a fantastic show, displaying skills the 1st team would have been proud of.
The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme is an initiative that will introduce over 36,000 young people to the sport through Tag Rugby.
The scheme is run by Premiership Rugby along with the 12 Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs and is expected to involve 600 primary schools, with 1,200 teachers also receiving training. 600 sets of equipment and resources will be distributed and 300,000 spectators are expected to watch demonstration events.
The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme is aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils aged 8 and 9 years. Each Premiership Rugby club will work with two classes at 50 schools.
The tag rugby festival signifies the culmination of the children's 6 week introduction to rugby and for many will be the first taste of playing a competitive game. It allows schools that are new to rugby to participate in a fun tag rugby festival with schools of a similar standard.
One school from each Premiership Rugby club region will then qualify for the tag rugby finals taking place during the Aviva Premiership Final at Twickenham where they will represent their premiership rugby club.
