A 36-man squad has been named for Bath Rugby’s pre-season fixture

9 September 2021

A 36-man squad has been named for Bath Rugby’s sole pre-season fixture against Cardiff Rugby on Friday evening (19:15 kick-off).

The Blue, Black and Whites head to Cardiff Arms Park for a mouth-watering clash with the United Rugby Championship side to conclude their preparations for the 2021/22 campaign.

Just under 50 per cent of the travelling group have either graduated from the Academy into the Senior Squad or are currently in the Senior Academy.

Academy quartet Orlando Bailey, Tom Carr-Smith, Nahum Merigan and Ewan Richards enjoyed a successful summer with England Under-20s and have returned to Bath with heightened confidence following their U20 Six Nations title win.

Tighthead props Johannes Jonker and D’Arcy Rae could debut for the club after arriving from Ealing Trailfinders and Glasgow Warriors respectively, while fly-half Danny Cipriani and Number 8 Jaco Coetzee are also set to feature for the first time.

Former England Sevens man Richard de Carpentier and ex-Academy forward Tom Cowan (both back row) are named in the squad as trialists.

The starting XV will be named a couple of hours before kick-off on Friday.

Tickets for the match remain on sale via Cardiff Rugby.
