Two front row changes for Bath Rugby in first home game of the season

15 September 2023

In Round 2 of the Premiership Rugby Cup, Bath Rugby will be facing Championship winners, Jersey Reds, on Saturday.

Taking to the green of The Rec for the first time in the 2023/24 season, Johann van Graan has named his team, replicating much of the set-up from the win down in Cornwall last week.

In the front row, Jasper Spandler swaps in for John Stewart at hooker, with Stewart taking his place on the bench.

Kieran Verden has also been moved up from the bench to start at tighthead.

Arthur Cordwell completes the front row, with Fergus Lee-Warner and captain Ewan Richards behind in the second row.

JJ Tonks, Ethan Staddon and Jaco Coetzee complete the pack in an unchanged loose forward set-up.

Tom Carr-Smith and George Worboys pair up once again at half back, with centre duo Will Butt and Max Wright at 12 and 13 respectively.

Will Muir takes the 11 jersey after a promising return from injury last week. Gabe Goss and Sam Harris complete the starting XV.

Last week's debutant Mikey Summerfield features on the bench, alongside Stewart, Scott Kirk, Nahum Merigan and Thompson Cowan.

Murdoch Lock, Ciaran Donoghue and Louie Hennessey take the three replacement back positions.

Leading the side for the opening rounds of the Premiership Rugby Cup, Andy Robinson said: "The Rec is a special place to play. It's a place where the players can really thrive because of the closeness of the support and because of where it is in the city.

"The memories we have of playing at The Rec, and even the players now who were children coming to watch games, it's great they've experienced watching Bath play over the years. They now get to pull on the shirt and perform themselves, so it is very special."
