Staddon to make first England Under-20s start

4 July 2022

Ethan Staddon will make his first England Under-20s start when Alan Dickens’ side take on Ireland in the Six Nations Under-20 Summer Series on Tuesday 5 July.

The Bath Rugby back row, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Sunday, earned his first two caps as a replacement in the series, contributing to a win over France last time out.

He starts at blindside flanker in a pack containing the ever-impressive Ewan Richards. The 20-year-old scored twice in the win against France – he will make it 10 Under-20s caps in Verona.

Hooker John Stewart, scrum-half Tom Carr-Smith and fly-half Sam Harris are named as replacements for the match that can be watched live via the Six Nations Rugby U20 YouTube channel at 19:00 BST (Tue 5 Jul).

England head into the match with one win and a defeat from their opening two pool games.

Head Coach Dickens said: “The players really gave it their all against France and to score four tries and secure a bonus point was well deserved.

“We know we will need to maintain focus on our discipline in the final pool game against Ireland who, as we experienced in the Six Nations Championship, are a strong side.”
