Italy v England
Bath Rugby’s Anthony Watson scored twice, as he inspired England to a 15-46 victory against Italy in Rome.
Watson, who started on the right wing, got England’s title defence off to a flying start scoring after just three minutes after finishing off a sweeping move in the corner.
The Bath flyer got his second eight minutes later, showing his acceleration and strength, as he sprinted in from the Italy 10m line. The 23-year-old fended off the attentions of three Italian defenders cross the whitewash, despite the best efforts of opposite number Tomasso Benvenuti.
Watson’s Club teammates Jonathan Joseph and Sam Underhill both made an impact as second-half replacements, with England crossing seven times at the Stadio Olimpico.
