Like classes in schools across the country during lockdown, Bath Rugby’s schools coaching sessions have been paused due to COVID-19.
Now, with the new academic year kicking off and schools finding their feet again, Bath Rugby’s Community team are also getting back into schools across Somerset, Dorset & Wiltshire. We are picking up where we left off last year, aiming to hit a record number of hours delivered, teachers worked with and pupils engaged.
We appreciate many schools will have different ways of working, with which external providers like ourselves will have to comply. We will work with every school ahead of each coaching session to go through new guidelines, discuss how the sessions will work and tailor our programmes accordingly.
At Bath Rugby we are still offering all tag rugby sessions to primary schools including during the school day, after school, at lunchtimes and during our fantastic one-off roadshows! We know some schools may not want us coming in frequently across six-week period, so we have created one-off roadshows aimed at working with as many pupils as possible in a short period of time. For any schools with restrictions on team sports or group training, we also have on offer sessions tailored for specific needs – such as fitness sessions, smaller group workshops and leadership sessions.
Bath Rugby’s Community Delivery Lead Lewis Palmer said: “With the amount of time pupils have had off from school and exercise.
"It’s vital that, as a professional sports club, we are able to offer schools and pupils a way back to enjoying sport again in a safe and fun environment.
Getting them involved in exercise again is also hugely important for their mental and physical wellbeing.”
