Revised Premiership Rugby A League structure for 2017/18 season

14 July 2017

Bath Rugby, along with its fellow Premiership Rugby clubs, is committed to developing the outstanding young talent in the country.

A key part of their progression is consistent, quality game time, and the Premiership Rugby A League is an opportunity to provide this for our promising players through representing Bath United. To help their ongoing development, the format of the competition has been slightly revised for the 2017/18 season.

The South pool will contain seven teams – including Bath United - and will operate as follows:

  • Each club will play home OR away against the other six clubs over a seven week period, with one rest period each.
  • The clubs who finish in the top five after this block of six games will then play four games against each other, on a home OR away basis.
  • The two clubs who finish 1st and 2nd after this phase of competition will progress to the semi-finals.
  • The two clubs who finish 6th and 7th in the South pool will play each other home AND away.

To bring Premiership Rugby A League fixtures in line with the rest of the squads training week, Bath Rugby is currently in discussions with the other clubs in the South pool about shifting games from their current Monday night slot.

No new dates have been confirmed yet, but we will do this as soon as possible. The games will still be held at the Recreation Ground, and still be free to enter with a suggested donation on the gate going to Bath Rugby Foundation.
