The supporter experience at the Rec is extremely important to us, especially for Season Ticket Holders and our most loyal core supporters. The view of the rugby itself is central to these considerations and we know that the sight lines, particularly from the East and West Stands, could be enhanced. The recent Charity Tribunal decision has enabled us to review our footprint and, as a result, Bath Rugby has submitted a planning application to Bath and North East Somerset Council to make some improvements for next season.
We are proposing to move the East Stand back into the Recreation Ground outfield by approximately three metres, which will allow the pitch to also move by approximately one and a half metres. This will allow for improved sightlines from both the East and West stands, and enable visibility of the respective near touchlines in each stand. The remaining stands and the big screen will remain in their current locations.
We have discussed the proposed change with both Bath Recreation Ground Trust and B&NES, but emphasise that at this stage the proposed move is still subject to planning approval by B&NES and formal approval by the Trust, our landlord.
The full planning application is on the B&NES planning website. We hope to have an answer by the end of May, and will keep supporters informed as soon as we hear the result.
In the meantime, we are continuing with a pre-design consultation phase regarding permanent redevelopment of our facilities at the Rec, and we will keep you informed throughout the process.
