Party in the City: The biggest free show in Bath

30 May 2012

Come along to the Bath Rugby Clubhouse at the Rec on Friday 1st June as Party in the City takes over some of Bath's best and most iconic venues and public spaces to celebrate the fantastic musical talent of the city. Catch chamber ensembles, jazz acts, street performers, rock bands and more throughout what promises to be a great evening.

The Party begins with the annual Festival Procession and Schools Commission in Bath Abbey, this year celebrating Passion -The Power Of Sport And Music - led by Brazilian composer and percussionist Adriano Adewale. The evening ends in style as fireworks illuminate Bath's Skyline, and headline act, the unrivalled dance floor band Babyhead raise the roof of the Pavilion.

The Bath Rugby Clubhouse will host 6 great local bands and musicians starting from 7pm on Friday 1st June.

7.00-7.30pm - Paul Garry

Catchy melodies and poetic lyrics all soaked in whiskey sunshine vocals. This songwriter will ignite your mind with tales of love, life and good times.

7.45-8.15pm - Ruth Royall

Ruth Royall's unique style of classic jazz mixed with her own songwriting creates a timeless quality. Taking inspiration from old jazz records, she has a voice to rival Billie Holiday and Etta James.

8.30-9.00pm - Sam Brookes

Fresh soulful magic from this young singer/songwriter. Having supported the likes of Kinks front man Ray Davies and with his debut album in the shops, Sam Brookes is a welcome addition to the folkful fringes of the UK circuit.

9.15-9.45pm - James Froud Band

Trains, coal mining, back beat towns and dead end cities, accompanied by a chorus of unrequited love, lost souls, and the words you can't quite say. The band plays songs written by Bristol-based James Froud, in a style centred on alternative country and bluegrass.

10.00-10.30pm - Dudlow Joe

A Bath-based band that has been performing its particular brand of boogie woogie inflected and New Orleans-ified rhythm and blues for the last ten years.

10.45-11.30pm - Mike Hoddinot Blues Allstars

The Blues Allstars have been performing at blues venues and festivals for over 15 years. They perform blues rock on drums, harmonica, guitar, bass and organ, bringing a creative jazz-like approach to solos and arrangements.
