Max Ojomoh, Gabe Hamer-Webb and Archie Griffin set to feature for international sides in U20s Six Nations opening fixture

30 January 2020

Bath Rugby’s Max Ojomoh and Gabe Hamer-Webb are two of nine debut players in the England’s starting XV, while Archie Griffin features as a replacement for the Wales team.

The Academy stars will all be looking for success in the opening fixture of the U20 Six Nations Championship, which sees Wales meet Italy at Zipworld Stadium on Friday (kick-off 19:35 live on S4C) and England take on France at the Stades des Alpes on Saturday (kick-off 20:00).

Ojomoh and Hamer-Webb made their first team debuts for the Blue, Black and White in the Premiership Rugby Cup opener against Exeter in September 2019, while prop Griffin – a member of Bath Academy since the age of 13 – has featured numerous times for Wales U18s and was key to Bath Rugby U18s’ most successful season to date in the 2018/19 season. All three signed Senior Academy contracts for the 2019/20 season.

Bath Rugby Performance Director Andy Rock said:

“Ojomoh, Hamer-Webb and Griffin all joined Bath Rugby as full-time players after signing Senior Academy contracts for the club in 2019. The recent announcements of their inclusion in respective international squads for the 2020 Six Nations is a hugely positive sign of their progression and performances since beginning their journey as full-time professionals only six months ago.

“Along with Nahum Merigan, who is also included in the England U20s squad, they’ve worked together and developed together as a group already for over five years. This is another important step for them to take as young professionals, to go and perform at this level.

“We’re proud of each of these young men and excited about the opportunities that are in front of them in the coming weeks. This weekend three of them will get the chance to perform in an international shirt, and we are sure that Nahum will get his opportunity as well during the competition.

“As a club we are fortunate to have seen them develop as people with us here at Bath, we've witnessed that with our own eyes in the past few years, and the amount they have all progressed since July 2019 is incredible. It’s a credit to them and everyone who has supported them.

“They are young men who we know will represent themselves, their families and this Club incredibly well. We wish them all the best of luck.”
