Jonathan Joseph is relishing the prospect of returning to Twickenham, as Bath Rugby take on Bristol Bears in the Clash on Saturday (kick-off 14:00).
Capped 40 times by England, the centre is no stranger to playing on the biggest stage. However, Joseph admits that it’s going to be a special occasion to run out in the Blue, Black and White.
“It will be massive,” Joseph said. “For many players that haven’t been fortunate enough to play for England or at international level, Twickenham is such a special place to play. The stadium and pitch are unbelievable and whoever you’re playing, when you step out at Twickenham the atmosphere is incredible. It makes you speechless and I know it’s going to be a great day.
“I’m sure we will hear the crowd chanting and cheering for us and that will make such a difference, hearing that noise and having that backing, especially in a local derby, playing at Twickenham.”
Joseph was absent from the opening day defeat against Pat Lam’s side, but admits it’s not about revenge but picking up as many points as possible in the remaining five games of the season.
“I don’t think it’s so much getting one back, it’s more a case of knowing where we are in the table and that every game matters. Whatever team you put in front of us we want to go out there and knock them down, collect our points and move onto the next week, so we are ready for the challenge.
“They play an attractive brand of rugby and have made some good signings. They have the belief there, they came in with a target of finishing top six and they are doing extremely well so fair play to them.
“It’s do or die, you’ve seen how the table is so unpredictable and you can’t afford to slip up now. We are in a position where every game is a must win, so we prepare the best we can and go into those games firing.”
