Reaction: Coetzee pleased to get 80 minutes under his belt

7 February 2022

Jaco Coetzee was really pleased to have completed 80 minutes for the first time in a Bath Rugby jersey with the result the only sour point against Saracens.

The Number 8’s time at the Rec has been hampered by injury but in the past two fixtures has been able to show his ability with ball in hand.

While Saracens managed to convert pressure into points and kept Bath out, Coetzee feels the Blue, Black and Whites never gave up at the StoneX Stadium, a positive to take into Wasps.

“It was great to get 80 minutes under my belt,” he said.

“I haven’t played 80 minutes in ages so it was nice to get that after my injury, but it would have been better if we’d won.

“The last 10 minutes of the first half and the first 10 minutes of the second half were crucial.

“They did break through us a few times but we never gave up. I know the scoreboard doesn’t reflect it, but if you were on the field, guys didn’t have their head down.”

Another positive in north London was a Gallagher Premiership debut for Josh Dingley.

The second row graduated into the Senior Academy in the summer and came on as a second-half replacement in the 68th minute.

“I’m really happy for the guy, he’s a very quiet kid,” Coetzee added.

“He really works hard. When he came on to the field he looked gobsmacked but he did a very good job, coming in and learning all the line-out calls and adapting where he had to. He did a really good job.”
