Following on from an emphatic 16 – 46 win at Rodney Parade against Newport Gwent Dragons last weekend, Bath Rugby return to the Rec this Saturday to face Worcester Warriors in the LV= Cup, kick off 2:15pm.
Tries from Jack Cuthbert, Ollie Woodburn, Matt Carraro, Matt Banahan, Tom Biggs, Will Spencer and new Samoan prop Anthony Perenise, along with 11 points from the boot of Tom Heathcote, secured a valuable try bonus point win away from home and the team are working hard to build on that performance.
Speaking about the game, First Team Coach Martin Haag said; "We had a great five point win away at Dragons, and with other teams losing in our pool, the game is a great chance for us to stay top of the table going into the next round. As with any game, any competition, winning breeds confidence, and especially if you play well – for us, it's about challenging ourselves to back it up this week against a strong Worcester side at home."
With all the World Cup players, with the exception of Stephen Donald, back in contention this weekend it is has thrown up a few selection conundrums for the coaching team. "It's a real headache for us, because we've got the World Cup guys back, as well as guys coming back from injury. It is a great opportunity for us to integrate the World Cup players into the squad and make sure they are up with the calls and understand how we want to play the game. They already know from this week's training what's expected and how we want to play, so now we should get to see them adapt their game to our style.
"They've seen the guys doing well, and have been downloading game footage in New Zealand, so they know they are up against stiff competition as the guys in those positions have been playing really well. So they've stepped up and it's an opportunity for them to try and stake a claim. The enthusiasm in training that they bring has been great, and it's added to the guys who have been here all summer who are training well - it's a great atmosphere to have in the squad."
