Finalists four times out in the last five years in the Premiership Rugby Cup, we take a closer look at Exeter Chiefs, who host the Blue, Black and White tomorrow afternoon.
Director of Rugby: Rob Baxter
Stadium: Sandy Park (12,900)
2018/19 Gallagher Premiership: Finalists
History in the Premiership Rugby Cup: Winners (2014, 2018), Finalists (2015, 2017)
Last meeting between the two sides: Exeter Chiefs 29-10 Bath Rugby (Gallagher Premiership)
Three players to watch:
Gareth Steenson
Steenson has spent over a decade with the Chiefs joining the Club in 2008. The vastly experienced fly-half is fast approaching 300 games for the Club and has amassed over 2,500 points in the process. The 35 year-old has been a mainstay in the side through Chiefs’ rise from the Championship to Premiership Champions in 2017.
Olly Woodburn
A former Bath man, Woodburn swapped the Rec for Sandy Park ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. The prolific winger has scored 35 tries in 88 appearances and has proved to be a constant threat during his time with the Devon-based side.
Jannes Kirsten
Kirsten will make his debut against Bath this weekend having made the move from Super Rugby outfit Bulls over the summer. The versatile second row/back row forward is now looking to push for international honours with the Springboks after signing a one-year deal with Rob Baxter’s side. A physical presence with ball in hand, Kirsten will look to show his quality in a Chiefs shirt this season.
