Good Luck Team Foundation!

7 June 2013

A huge Good Luck to the Bath Rugby Foundation team who are tackling the gruelling Deloitte Ride Across Britain starting tomorrow.

Over 30 local riders, including former England and Bath players Lewis Moody, Danny Grewcock, David Flatman and Andy Beattie, Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell and Bath Rugby President David Trick, are undertaking the Ultimate Cycle Challenge.

For nine days, until Sunday 16th June, they will cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End, a distance of 982 miles in total and covering approximately 109 miles per day, all in aid of raising much needed funds for the Bath Rugby Foundation.

The group will be joined by an additional 36 cyclists, including the Club's Chief Executive Nick Blofeld, who will cycle from Wincanton to Land's End over two days covering approximately 226 miles. They will then be further supported by 11 local cyclists who will spend a day cycling with the group from Ludlow to Wincanton, covering a distance of over 100 miles.  This brings the total number of local cyclists raising money for the Bath Rugby Foundation to an impressive 81.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Bath Rugby Foundation is an independent charity, entirely funded by grants and donations from businesses and individuals. Their aim, through their award-winning Education and Inclusion programmes, is to enhance the lives of children and young people through sport, in particular those who have a disadvantaged lifestyle. The Foundation helped 22,500 children in 2012 and is proud to have worked with over 125,000 children since it started in 2003.

Flatman, now Communications Director for the Club said, "Let's face it, people our size are not meant to sit on tiny saddles! But we are all very excited about the challenge this ride presents, even if we are slightly worried that one member is too out of shape to even attempt it. No names...However, we know first-hand the amazing work that the Bath Rugby Foundation does with children and young people. If they can boost the self-esteem of a 10 year old child, then what's better than that? That is what drives us on."
