Gold: “Everyone is up for 7’s selection”

20 July 2012

With just under a month until the first pre-season friendly against London Welsh on Saturday 10th August, pre-season training at Bath Rugby is well underway.

Having just completed a gruelling training camp in Wales and preparing for the new season ahead, the squad's attention is now also on the J.P. Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s Series.

Bath will compete in Pool C, one of three qualifying Pools, ours to be staged at Kingsholm on Thursday 26th July. The Rec has been chosen as the venue for the finals on Friday August 3rd, and it is the first opportunity that Gary Gold and his team of coaches will have to see the players in competitive action.

Whilst in previous years the tournament has been used primarily as development for the younger Bath players, this year Gold has made it clear that everyone is available for selection. This means we could well see the experienced Tom Biggs lining up with other senior squad members such as Kyle Eastmond, Guy Mercer and Josh Ovens as well as academy winger, Olly Woodburn.

Gold said: "The J.P. Morgan 7s is forming a big part of our pre-season plans this year. It will be the first chance for us to see many of the squad in a competitive environment, and the game of 7s itself is much less forgiving on players so they really have to be on their toes.

"It is a great way to develop players, especially someone like Kyle who didn't get the chance to play much last season, and it will really test the boys selected, show us where the hard work that has been put into pre-season is paying off, and where further improvements can be made."

Bath will face Gloucester Rugby, Exeter Chiefs and Worcester Warriors in their Pool. Tickets are now available from the Gloucester Ticket Office on 0871 871 8781.
