Francois Louw visits Malmesbury School

8 March 2012

Students from Malmesbury School welcomed Bath Rugby player Francois Louw to their school last week.  This was the second visit this year by a South African rugby star from Bath.

Francois Louw a full Springbok international, following his emergence as a star at the world cup in New Zealand, recently joined Bath from his native South Africa. Francois is a Cape Town local and it was a perfect chance for the students soon to be leaving for Malmesbury, South Africa to learn about the area and some language from someone who grew up in the region.

The session lasted an hour and students had the chance to learn about food and drink in the region and learn some of the polite basics, please and thank you etc. It was also a chance to learn some names of animals in Afrikaans and Francois put the students and the teachers through their paces, ensuring that pronunciation was perfect.

He also took the chance to teach the group about Cape Town, some of the sights to see and some of the interesting features of the city, including the unique taxis.

The session was a great success and Francois coped well with the grilling from students and left them excited about their expedition to the town’s partner in Africa.
