First ever Bath Rugby Residential Camp a roaring success

5 October 2017

The first ever Bath Rugby Residential Camp took place at Bournemouth Collegiate School in August, welcoming 40 enthusiastic rugby players coming from as far afield as New York and Singapore.

During the five-day camp, participants were given an insight into the life of a professional rugby player with a specially designed programme, covering key areas such as nutrition, strengths and conditioning recovery and much more.

Based on a typical training week of the Bath Rugby squad, those attending were also able to draw on the experience of Matt Banahan, Freddie Burns, Luke Charteris and Charlie Ewels, who passed on their knowledge of what life it like in the professional game.

Sean Cole, who attended this summer’s camp said: “I really enjoyed the week of coaching and learnt a lot. It was well balanced with fitness, rugby and education, which gave everyone a real understanding of what it takes to progress in the sport. I can’t honestly pick out an highlights, as it was such a great experience for everyone involved.”

Bath Rugby first team player, Matt Banahan added: “I saw first-hand how much the camp participants benefited from living a week in the life of a professional rugby player. It gives those individuals a real broad understanding of what it takes to fulfil their potential. There is more than just getting out on the field on matchday, so it will have been really useful for those guys to see all the work that needs to happen behind the scenes to succeed in the game.
