England’s first Test against Australias ended in a narrow 30-28 loss with two Bath Rugby players on show.
Will Stuart and Joe Cokanasiga both started the contest in Perth and both made a steady number of metres as they looked to get their hands on the ball throughout.
Tighthead Stuart carried the third most times of any forward on the field (9) and gained 22 metres in 79 minutes, with wing Cokanasiga, who featured for 74 minutes, beating two defenders on his way to 21 metres.
Australia went into half-time level at 6-6 despite having lock Darcy Swain sent off, and they fell behind when Leicester Tigers’ Ellis Genge crashed over.
But the Wallabies bounced back, with Jordan Petaia, Folau Fainga'a and Pete Samu scoring in an impressive comeback.
Some consolation came for England as London Irish’s uncapped wing Henry Arundell and debutant Tigers scrum-half Jack van Poortvliet went over late on.
Stuart, Cokanasiga and Sam Underhill will now prepare for the second Test in Brisbane.
