Ellis steps up to senior squad for 2016/17

13 January 2016

Tom Ellis has renewed his contract with Bath Rugby, in a move that sees the former England U20 lock make the step up from the Academy to the senior squad from the 2016/17 season.

Ellis, 21, made his senior debut last season in the European Rugby Champions Cup, appearing in back-to-back matches against Glasgow Warriors and Toulouse. He has gone on to make ten senior appearances – including four this season – catching the eye with both his physicality and impressive work rate.

Academy Director Danny Grewcock said: "Tom is a fantastic athlete who has developed remarkably well. He’s not looked out of place when playing for the first team, and I’m sure he’ll keep working hard on his all-round game and that we’ll see more of him in the future.”

"We’ve been impressed by Tom’s character for a long time," Bath Rugby Head Coach Mike Ford added. "He’s really benefited from the culture of our Academy system and he’s a big lad who will cause the opposition no end of trouble. We look forward to seeing his continued progression here at the Club.”
