David Flatman visits Winscombe and Sandford Primary Schools

18 May 2012

David Flatman recently joined the Bath Rugby Community Department as they visited Winscombe and Sandford Primary Schools in North Somerset.

Both schools were nominated by Thatchers Cider, Official Partner to Bath Rugby, to receive Bath Rugby's School of Tag sessions, and for the lucky Year 5 pupils, this included the opportunity to meet and chat with Bath Rugby loosehead prop, David Flatman.

Bath Rugby Community Rugby Manager, Steve Middleton, said; "Our rugby based School of Tag deliveries are designed as fun sessions that allow the children to understand the principals of tag rugby, and at each school we were able to progress into tag games that involved all the pupils - they did really well."

On behalf of the pupils at Sandford Primary School, Headteacher Lin Williams, thanked Bath Rugby for their visit, and Winscombe Primary headteacher, Linda Grogan, added, "We would like to say a huge thank you for the very successful visit to the school on Friday. The children thoroughly enjoyed the coaching and meeting David Flatman. It was lovely that all the children received a Bath Rugby flag and signed photo of the squad."

Bath Rugby's Business Development Director, Matt Powell commented, "This has been another successful event delivered by our Community Department and we would also like to thank Thatchers Cider for their valued sponsorship support. Their initiative has allowed senior player David Flatman and our Community Department to extend the delivery of Bath Rugby's School of Tag into two, more distant, rural Somerset schools at Winscombe and Sandford Primary Schools."

Martin Thatcher, managing director of Thatchers Cider added; "Everyone had a really good time. It's great to see the pupils enjoying sport, and as a rugby fan I hope that the visit from our friends at Bath Rugby will encourage some of the boys and girls to carry on playing in their spare time."

School of Tag is a Bath Rugby tag rugby programme designed for primary and junior schools, delivered in 2 hours curriculum time sessions over a five-week programme, this season the programme has been delivered into 25 schools in the Bath & North East Somerset area, and next season the programme will be extended to 30 local schools in our community.
