Count on Bath visits St Augustine's College

17 January 2012

Jimmy Deane, Bath Rugby’s Foundation Manager visited St Augustine’s College in Trowbridge today to start a new session of Count on Bath for their Year 10 pupils. Count on Bath is a personal finance programme designed to engage young people in learning personal financial life skills and economic capability.

The Foundation is working with the school to deliver a variety of programmes chosen by St Augustine’s over this academic year.  Pupils will tackle sessions in finance, languages, girls’ rugby coaching and dance as well as giving an opportunity for GCSE students to attend maths “grade boost” classes.

The first session of Count on Bath was Tackling Financial Matters.  During the first half the students were encouraged to discuss names of banks, reasons to have a bank account and how to open one, how to withdraw cash and different methods of spending money.  The second half was active using rugby skills based around all they had learnt in the first session i.e. throwing the ball and shouting the name of a bank whilst catching it.

Jimmy Deane, The Bath Rugby Foundation Manager says:  “It is a really exciting time for us and it is great to be working with a local school in Trowbridge - we are looking forward to building on this relationship.  The Associate Secondary Schools Programme is on offer to all secondary schools across the region and we hope to create many new partnerships in the long term.”
