Centurions match preview - Training in the Montpellier heat

13 January 2012

Centurions Club match reporter, Ben Da Costa, previews tomorrows game from the Montpellier sunshine.

With anticipation growing for tomorrows game the boys in Blue, black and white trained intensely hard in the baking southern France sun doing team run throughs at the Stade yves du Manoir.

The warm up was primarily run by skills and defence coach Brad Davis with Sir Ian Mcgeechan and Martin Haag looking on, with the players playing an expanding game of touch rugby.

They then split into they're separate skills with Scrum- half pair Michael Claassens and Chris Cook practising their passing off the ground, Lee Mears and Olly Barkley doing some fitness training, the forwards went into practising line-outs while the backs did some kicking. Fly-halfs Tom Heathecote and Sam Vesty then went on to practice their precision goal kicking with Olly Barkley joining in near the end. Skills training concluded with Lee Mears and Ross Batty perfecting their line out throwing.

I had a quick interview with Matt Banahan with him saying "The back line looks exciting with the width of the pitch and the weather should lead to an exciting game of running rugby" he also believes that "we need a win to get the momentum back and getting the results we need".

So it's on for tomorrows game with the team looking fit and raring to go but, will that be enough to overcome a strong Montpellier side?

You'll just have to wait and read my report!
