Will Britton, Jack Davies and Tom Doughty have become the latest players to sign senior Academy contracts with Bath Rugby.
The trio have joined the recently contracted Will Butt, Oli Cattell, Tom de Glanville, Sam Elrick, Simone Elrick, Ethan Hutt and Tom Jeanes in the Academy setup ahead of the 2018/19 season.
It was a breakthrough year for Britton, who made his senior debut for Bath against in the 21-8 victory over Newcastle Falcons Anglo-Welsh Cup in January. The second-rower also captained the University for the second consecutive year in their BUCS Super Rugby Campaign as well ad playing alongside fellow Bath Academy player Wil Partington for England Students at the end of the 2017/18 season. Will was with Bath Academy as an U18 player alongside his studies at Dauntsey’s School in Wiltshire, before embarking upon his degree at the University of Bath.
Doughty will follow in Britton’s footsteps having taken on the captaincy at the University for 2018/19, whilst also looking to continue his rise in the Blue, Black and White. The hooker featured for Bath United in last season’s Premiership Rugby A League, coming off the bench against Saracens Storm in April. Doughty has spent the summer months with the England University Sevens squad.
Jack Davies will graduate this summer in Sport & Exercise Science and will combine playing with studying for a Business Masters at the University. The back rower, who is equally comfortable playing at lock, was a regular feature in the Bath United side during the 2017/18 campaign.
Bath Rugby’s Academy Manager, Andy Rock, said: ““The opportunity to bring these three young men into our environment is something we are really excited about. We have worked closely with them all over the past year and I believe they will all end up playing an important role here at Bath Rugby in the coming season.
“Our relationship with the University of Bath is continually evolving, and the strength within the rugby partnership just gets better and better. These signings are a clear example of how this part of our Pathway is developing.”
Aaron James, Head of Rugby at the University of Bath, added: “We couldn’t be happier for the three players, it is just reward based on both their playing performances for the University last year and occasional A League outing for Bath Rugby.
“It shows that the partnership we have with Bath Rugby works for both parties across a number of areas including player recruitment into professional rugby. It also shows the value of the BUCS Super Rugby competition in developing players towards professional rugby.”
