Bath Rugby’s Partnership Programme at Beechen Cliff School ended Hartpury College’s unbeaten start to the season with an impressive 33-10 victory.
With three wins from three, Hartpury were looking to extend their lead at the top of the AASE South League, but it was Beechen Cliff who prevailed to move level on points after four games.
Despite the commanding result, Beechen Cliff had to absorb considerable pressure with the visitors spending large parts of the game in hosts’ half. However, a mixture of strong defence, turnovers and game management saw Beechen Cliff reduce Hartpury to just 10 points over the course of the 80 minutes.
Hartpury had averaged over 50 points a game in the victories over City of Oxford College, St Paul’s Catholic College and Exeter College, but were unable to breakthrough a dogged Beechen Cliff defensive line.
A double from Gabe Goss and another from Bath Rugby’s Orlando Bailey saw the momentum shift in favour of the home side, before second half efforts from Archie Maggs and Jasper Spandler sealed a well-deserved triumph.
Beechen Cliff now sit level on points with Hartpury College at the top of the table with 15 points from their opening four games.
