Bath Rugby Women return for Super Sevens Series London Irish thriller

27 May 2022

Liv Taylor will captain Bath Rugby Women’s Sevens as they head to London Irish Sevens in the Super Seven Series this weekend.

The teenager, who is currently studying for her A Levels, was in scintillating form last time out and was awarded the Pol Roger Player of the Tournament for her performances.

Mairéad McErlean will earn her debut for the team in Surrey having recovered from an ankle injury sustained in the University of Bath’s Varsity match. The captain of the University with plenty to give on the field, she offers great leadership alongside the likes of Megan Barwick and Rebecca Wye.

Wye skippered Bath at the South Island Sevens and has highlighted the areas to improve on ahead of tournament number three for the Blue, Black and White.

“It’s genuinely exciting to see week-on-week progress,” she said.

“Our biggest focus as we move into next week and prepare for London Irish Sevens is making sure we can execute under fatigue and work on our Sevens knowledge to ensure we don’t revert to XVs behaviour when we tire.”

Leah McGoldrick and Hannah Meek continue for Bath as do Anya Small, Sofia Mazzone, Alicia Sutcliffe, Bethan Wakefield and Bethanie Wilson.

Robyn Price returns to the squad while exciting dual-registered Bristol Bears Women and Bath RFC Ladies scrum-half Ellie Lewis will debut.

Thea Thompson, Nia Grundy and Rebecca Lacey are all unavailable due to injury.

Bath have four confirmed fixtures at the London Irish Sevens and take on Hammerheads in their opener at 11:40 on Saturday.

Having beaten the Wooden Spoon at Newbury Sevens, they go head-to-head with them again at 13:20, a match that will be live streamed, before facing Samurai (15:00) and Scimitar Storm (16:20).
