It’s one of the biggest dates in the sevens calendar and Bath Rugby Women are excited to showcase their skills on the elite stage.
Bournemouth Sevens is known for its high calibre of sevens rugby and festival culture, and Head Coach Maria Crowfoot believes her team is ready to rise to the occasion.
“We had a challenging tournament at London Irish last weekend, but we’ve rested, evaluated and put the lessons we’ve learned into our training this week,” she said.
“There are lots of highs and lows in rugby, it’s just the nature of sport. If the girls can get back out there this weekend at Bournemouth and deliver some good performances, I’ll be pleased no matter the result.”
After two Pol Roger Player of the Tournament awards, Megan Barwick will captain a squad of 13 women who will take on Hammerhead Sharks and Colorado Titans on Friday, with knockout games taking place on Saturday.
Teenager Rebecca Lacey has recovered from a groin injury sustained at South Island Sevens that ruled her out of last week at London Irish. She takes her spot next to Bath RFC Ladies players, Hannah Meek, Alicia Sutcliffe and Mairéad McErlean, who returned to the squad last week after injury.
Anya Small, Sofia Mazzone and Megan Griffiths are also included with youngster Liv Taylor set to pull on the Blue, Black and White shirt again after her inspiring performance at London Irish last weekend.
Rebecca Wye, who skippered at South Island Sevens, remains in the squad to add her strength and elite tournament knowledge in the midfield.
New to the squad this week are University of Bath student Jenny Hesketh, a Bristol Bears player who recently trained with the England Sevens squad, and Loughborough University student Chloe Williams to bolster the squad the versatility.
