Bath’s only rugby walk is back! The event, in aid of Dorothy House and Bath Rugby Foundation, will understandably look a little different this year, as walkers are encouraged to step out, step up and take the challenge to another level.
In previous years upwards of 500 people have put their best foot forward, walking from Dorothy House Hospice in Winsley, to the home of Bath Rugby at The Rec. In 2021 however, for the first time, the charities are throwing down the gauntlet and participants can choose their very own rugby-themed distance walk over the Six Nations period (from February 6th to March 20th).
So if, over the six-week period, you want to walk to The Rec, to the Principality Stadium (57 miles), to Twickenham (107 miles), or even Murrayfield (387 miles!) then it’s totally up to you.
If that isn’t enough encouragement, both charities will be spicing things up by introducing bonus points and a sporting blitz challenge laid down by some of Bath Rugby’s famous faces and Dorothy House’s own stars. There will be brilliant prizes for top fundraisers and individual blitz winners!
Hosting the event virtually this year ensures that you can still get outside, get fundraising, enjoy the rugby and support two of Bath’s most loved charities!
The Bath Rugby Walk Challenge is FREE - and when you sign up, you’ll be sent an exclusive free T-shirt too! Wear your event T-shirt with pride as you take on your walk and take part in the weekly challenges.
All we ask is that you raise as much money as you can for our two incredible charities so that they can continue to provide vital services throughout our community.
Each year the work of Dorothy House and Bath Rugby Foundation has a direct impact on the most vulnerable. From some of the youngest people, who have had the toughest start in life, to those at the end of their lives, both charities deliver ongoing care directly to those in our community who need it now more than ever.
Nikki - part of Mashy Marchers said – “The Bath Rugby Walk for the last two years has been the perfect way to support Dorothy House, bringing family and friends together for a beautiful
walk while remembering loved ones no longer with us. Our reward is to enjoy our quintessential sport rugby not to mention a great pie and pint! Mashy Marchers walk in memory of Stuart Morgan-Nash and it’s a truly inspiring and humbling experience.”
Emily Knight, Event Fundraiser, Dorothy House said: “It’s fantastic to be working with Bath Rugby Foundation again on this much-loved community walk to help raise vital funds for our community. During a pandemic it’s even more important for the two charities to work together and build on the great success of this event.
Halena Coury, Head of Fundraising at Bath Rugby Foundation, said: “During this unique year the event is FREE, easy to enter and brings together friends to walk and talk and safely catch up. Social and emotional health is key to both charities and Bath Rugby Foundation is delighted to be working with Dorothy House again this year. Both charities have been affected by the pandemic, with more people needing us and less revenue available to provide our vital services. We cannot stress how important this fundraising event is to both charities. We look forward to seeing how much fun and creativity our incredible walkers can inject into this challenge.”
Don Kennedy, Head of Engagement at Dorothy House, said: “The Bath Rugby Walk has become such an important event for our local community. Each year we are overwhelmed by the support we receive. It directly contributes to vital services that are so needed right now. I can’t wait for this year’s event, I know it will be different and we are looking forward to getting everyone together again. Until then however we hope we can provide something just as special for our supporters at a time where it is so needed.”
Ed Heal said: “The Bath Rugby Walk is a definite yearly highlight. Great atmosphere, great organisation and raising funds for two really great charities. A bit of exercise, a few pints with mates, 6 Nations rugby and a pie. What’s not to like?"
Entry is FREE and includes an exclusive Bath Rugby Walk T-shirt.
