Bath Rugby Premiership Rugby Academy Camps

9 August 2012

Last week, the Bath Rugby Community Department delivered a third year of summer camps at Marlborough College. The Marlborough camps were delivered over five days, split into two age ranges U7-U12 and U13-U16, and participants enjoyed Q&A visits from Bath Rugby players Ben Skirving, Jack Cuthbert and Ben Williams.

This week the Community coaches have spent two days at the Army’s Land Warfare School at Warminster Army Camp delivering to children of the garrison aged between 5 years – 16 years; the event was coordinated by Army RDO Michael “Taff” Bamsey and Army Sergeant Paul Threlfall and their staff.

“Taff” Bamsey said, “ It’s great to have Bath Rugby involved with us as the local Garrison, our staff, parents and children have enjoyed a variety of fun rugby coaching delivered by Bath and we look forward to an on-going relationship,” Taff’s sentiments were echoed by camp Commandant Colonel Peter Merriman who added, “The Garrison appreciate the involvement of Bath Rugby, and we hope that bringing rugby to these children might encourage them to play Sunday rugby for youth teams in one of the four local rugby clubs, Warminster, Frome, Trowbridge and Westbury.”

Bath Rugby’s John Harrison arranged Bath Rugby’s community coaching presence at the army camp and having thanked the Garrison for inviting Bath Rugby to the camp, he said, “Being able to deliver to over seventy children at the camp has been a very satisfying and worthwhile activity, particularly as we are supporting our local Garrison, we are already considering ways of further increasing the relationship between the club and the local military, and this camp has been a great start.”

Today, Bath Rugby player, Tom Heathcote is delivering a day-long Kicking Clinic for just fifteen participants aged 13-17years. Bath Rugby’s Geoff Binding said, “This will be a great opportunity for the participants to receive first-hand kicking tips from Tom and it promises to be an interesting and informative coaching clinic. Tom has planned his delivery to include all aspects of kicking – positional kicking from hand in defence and attack, at restarts and place kicking, we are sure the participants will have a full day of technical tuition.”

As part of attending Tom’s clinic, participants have been invited to attend the JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7’s Finals at the Rec where they will be able to support Bath Rugby and watch Tom in action on Friday evening. A few tickets for the Finals remain for sale through the Bath Rugby Ticket Office: 0844 448 1865.
