When Bath Rugby welcome Scarlets to the Rec on Saturday 16th August, they will do so with armed with a secret weapon: a rudimentary knowledge of the Welsh language.
Bath Rugby lock Dom Day, a native of Pembrokeshire and a former Scarlet, took it upon himself to brief some of his fellow forwards on some of the Welsh buzzwords they are likely to hear on the field of play come next Saturday.
“I was teaching a Geordie, a Scouser and an Argentinean how to speak Welsh,” says Day. “It was never going to be easy, but we got there. The boys are now ready for Scarlets.”
After his Welsh masterclass, Day believes that Ross Batty, Carl Fearns and Juan Pablo Orlandi could all blend in easily in every village and town the length and breadth of Carmarthenshire.
