Bath Rugby Golf Society celebrates success at Lansdown Golf Club

22 May 2012

Friday 18th May was a day full of successes for the Bath Rugby Golf Society – in particular new member, David Cowles, who not only finished in second place alongside golfing partner Liz Bloor but also bagged the first hole in one in a Society competition.

Lansdown Golf Club were fine hosts for the second competition in the Golf Society calendar, with the challenging course and the clubhouse and it's staff providing a great atmosphere and hospitality. It certainly set the standard for the societies next competition at North Wilts Golf Club, click here to book your place today.

Members and guests took to the course on a slightly overcast day, but when staring down the long and seemingly narrow first tee, most were unconcerned by the weather and fully focused on getting their round underway in the best possible fashion – straight and true down the centre of the fairway, although not all were successful.

In the second group on the course, David Cowles had started the day expecting nothing more than to have an enjoyable round of golf, unbeknown to him, his friends and the other golfers in attendance at this event, when David stepped up to the par 3 14th he didn't need 3 shots to complete this hole, not when one would suffice. Jubilation would later be followed by concern which would be followed by a phone call to the bank manager as a hole in one is traditionally followed by a drink for all in the clubhouse.

In the competition, the eventual winners were from a group entered by Bath Rugby corporate partners, Novia Financial with a score of 44 points.

The full results for the day were as follows:

1st – Rob Mulvey and Oliver McGiven, 44pts
2nd – Liz Bloor and David Cowles, 42pts
3rd – Danny Sacco and Paul Banahan, 39pts

Longest Drive (18th) – Darren Lewis
Nearest Pin (10th) – Kelvin Green
Two Club winners (Taking 27 balls each) – Kelvin Green and David Cowles
Hole in 1 (14th) – David Cowles

The day was rounded off with a delicious and well deserved two course meal. The successful pairings were then presented with their prizes by Golf Society President – Lord Ian MacLaurin. The first placed pair received a Srixon Golf Bag each with second place picking up Cobra umbrellas. A special thank you goes to Great Western Wine who supported the day with a superb array of prizes to include a three bottle presentation pack for each of the top 3 pairings and a bottle of fine Champagne for the Longest Drive winner. A fine Champagne from Great Western wines was also awarded to David Cowles for his hole in one and a Cap from Puma was awarded to the nearest the pin winner at the 10th
