Bath Rugby Foundation’s annual Awards Evening took place on Tuesday 22nd November at the Assembly Rooms in Bath. The event was attended by over 400 people, from Bath Rugby players to local businesses and of course the nominees and their families. This event was a chance to celebrate the success of the Foundation, and more importantly the young people they have worked with, and the incredible obstacles they have overcome in the past 12 months.
Bath Rugby Foundation is the charitable arm of Bath Rugby, set up to empower local young people to succeed. They use the power of rugby to help vulnerable young people overcome barriers around Health, Education, Inclusion and Employability.
Each year, the Foundation team work with over 4000 children and young people. From these. they select the students who have progressed the most and put them forward for a prestigious Bath Rugby Foundation Award. These nominations are then submitted to a judging panel, this year made up of Bath Rugby Club Captain Guy Mercer, former Paralympic swimmer Kate Gray, and Bath Life Magazine editor Lisa Evans.
Kate Grey, former paralympic swimmer, said, “Guy, Lisa and I have had a brilliant time being part of the Foundation judging panel. There were so many heart warming stories - from overcoming illness, to finding strength in teamwork - it was hard to choose between them. But each and every one of the nominees should feel hugely proud of themselves. It’s clear that the Foundation really does change the lives of young people in the area using the power of sport. It’s really inspiring to see.”
Simon Gould, Managing Director, BMT Hi-Q Sigma who sponsored the event, said: “The more I have seen of the work delivered by the Bath Rugby Foundation, the more I have been amazed by the positive impact it has on our community. As a local employer, BMT has been proud to support the Foundation to help young people to create a better future for themselves. We have had a lot of fun along the way and I’d encourage other local employers to get involved with an inspirational team.”
