Bath Rugby Community welcome Canadian high school

11 March 2014

On Thursday 6th March, the Bath Rugby Community team welcomed a Canadian high school to the Rec for a coaching session before they embark on a UK rugby tour.

The Oakville Trafalgar High School Under 18’s touring party from Toronto consists of 20 girls, 25 boys and four staff. The school was on a two-day whistle stop tour of Bath and was very excited to visit the iconic home of Bath Rugby, where they got the opportunity to see behind the scenes and set foot on the hallowed Rec turf.

Community coaches Kim Oliver and Fran Gilpin put the girls’ squad through a light training session ahead of their game that evening with Somerset U18 girls, much of which focused on handling and footwork in addition to helping them gain some useful new tips.

The boys’ session was led by community coaches Henry Poulson and Jack Howden and focused on how to create and execute an offload in the tackle area.  Both coaches were impressed by how quickly the pupils adapted and were full of admiration of their rugby knowledge and skill levels.

All of the Community team thoroughly enjoyed meeting and coaching the school and wish them the best of luck on their tour!
