Bath Rugby academy to take part in Million Makers Challenge

5 April 2012

The Bath Rugby Academy is taking part in a competition to raise money for youth charity, The Prince's Trust.

The rugby players' challenge is to work together as a team and raise a minimum of £10,000 for the youth charity over the next six months.

The academy will be competing against other companies and organisations in the area to raise the most money for The Trust and help get disadvantaged young people in the region into work. The group of eight young rugby players from the academy are now putting together a business plan for their enterprise.

Their plan is to create their own menus and cook for guests at Farleigh House, Farleigh Hungerford, Bath, using home-grown herbs and vegetables.

Danny Grewcock, Bath Rugby's Academy Director said: "We're looking forward to working with the Trust and supporting the boys on their journey.

"Not only will they be raising funds but they will also be developing essential working skills such as compiling a business plan, pitching their business to a Dragons' Den style panel and managing all the finances – quite a challenge to up and coming rugby players.

"My hope is that this challenge will motivate and inspire them to succeed as a team. It will also help them to find out about themselves and to become well rounded individuals, while raising money for such a worthwhile cause."

Money raised from the challenge goes towards supporting disadvantaged young people across the South West, giving them the skills and confidence to find a job. Last year, more than three in four young people helped by The Prince's Trust moved into work, education or training.

Tracy Ogden Davies, Head of Commercial Fundraising, for the Trust says: "We're delighted that Bath Rugby Academy is taking part in this year's challenge. With youth unemployment at a record high, the money they raise will make a huge difference to young lives in the South West area."

The Trust works with 13 – 30 year olds who have struggled at schools, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. It needs to raise almost £1 a week to continue its vital work.

Keep a look out on our website over the next six months for news on some of their achievements along the way.
