Bath Rugby Academy were narrowly edged out 28-35 by Exeter Chiefs Academy at Millfield School on Saturday.
Fullback Will Partington got the home side off to a flying start converting his own try after just four minutes, before the visitors hit back with a five-point score of their own when flanker Will Gibson cross the whitewash 10 minutes later. 7-10
In a flurry of first half tries, Partington’s opposite number Finn Marks extended the advantage on the scoreboard to give the Chiefs a 7-15 lead after 18 minutes. However, Bath quickly rallied and their persistence was duly rewarded when winger Oran McNulty touched down twice in eight minutes to put the Blue, Black and White 21-15 with seven minutes left until the interval. 21-15
Chiefs’ number eight Rusi Tuima ensured that it would be his side that would go into the second half with a one point lead after a try, converted by Gwyn Parkes took the score to 21-22.

Two quickfire penalties from Parkes in the opening 12 minutes of the second half saw the Chiefs extend their lead to seven. 21-28
Winger Alex Cant put more distance between the two sides with a try after 56 minutes, which was converted by the reliable Parkes. 21-35
Replacement James Reed ensured a tense finish as he got his name on the scoresheet with eight minutes to go. However, the Chiefs held on and closed out the game.
