Bath Rugby coach the Aviva Tag Rugby Schools programme at Beckington Primary School
“Stand Up, sit down,” I heard a voice shouting. “Roll over, turn around,” it was Bath Rugby’s Community coach, Steve Middleton who was giving a warm up session to the children at Beckington Primary School. This was the first of six sessions where Steve will be teaching the children the game of tag rugby.
In the first three sessions the children are taught the rules, then by the fifth week they are beginning to develop their team skills and by the sixth week they are ready for a challenge at the Festival.
The Aviva Tag Rugby Festival will be the first taste of competitive rugby for many children, and will allow the schools that are new to rugby to participate in a fun tag rugby festival with schools of a similar standard. The children were having a great time with Steve and really enjoying wearing their tag belts and running around after each other. You can see this by the photo of them throwing their tags up in the air.
