This week Bath Rugby community coach Steve Middleton was delivering the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Tag Rugby programme at St Aldhelms Church Primary School in Shepton Mallet. He has been visiting several schools in the Shepton Mallet/Wells area this month and there has been a very positive response.
Aviva sponsor the Premiership and invest in all areas of the game including the community, and here at Bath Rugby our community department are involved with their Tag Rugby schools programme.
St Aldhelms have their partner school Friedrich Ludwig John school from Wittenberge visiting them this week. The German pupils will be having lessons at the school, touring the village and joining Year 5 on a residential trip in Keele later on in the week which will be all about outdoor activity and PE challenges.
Frau Schultz, the Head Teacher at the partner school said: “The children haven’t played rugby before. Our school have a strong sporting tradition which includes roller blading and ice skating but this is quite new to them. They are having a lovely time.”
The Tag Rugby was great fun and the visiting students managed to keep up with the coaching instruction from Steve with a little help with some translation from Frau Schultz.
The Aviva Tag sessions being delivered are a great opportunity for the children to implement their newly acquired skills in an engaging and fun environment.
