Academy trio shine in opening round of U20 Championship

8 June 2016

Academy trio Zach Mercer, Darren Atkins and Adam Hastings helped their respective nations to opening-round victories in the World Rugby U20 Championship in England.

At the Manchester City Academy Stadium, back rower Mercer came on as a replacement to score one of England's six tries in a 48-10 bonus point win against Italy, in a match which also saw fullback Atkins make his U20 debut.

At the nearby AJ Bell Stadium, fly-half Hastings helped Scotland claim a huge scalp against Australia, kicking a penalty and a conversion in the 15-10 victory.

The Academy teammates will likely face each other in their next fixture, as England take on Scotland this Saturday, again at the Manchester City Stadium (k.o. 18:00).
