Two Bath Rugby Senior Academy players will represent the club in the next round of the of the 2022 U20 Six Nations.
Wales Under-20s’ Head Coach Byron Hayward has made eight changes and a positional switch for Captain Alex Mann, allowing back row Thompson Cowan to join the back row on the flank.
Cowan will make his starting debut for Wales, packing down on the blindside, after making his competitive debut off the bench in the first Round against Ireland. The young Academy player played over 40 minuets in the 53-5 loss, but managed a 100% tackle rate.
Hayward said: “We have got to put last week’s game behind us and look forward to this weekend and get back on track with a good win on Friday night.”
Bath Rugby Academy Manager Craig Lilley said of Cowan's run on debut: "We are delighted that Tom will make his first start this week and I know he will be looking forward to the battle against the Scottish back row. Scotland were very physical against England and I know that the attributes that Tom brings will have a positive influence on the game for Wales."
Meanwhile, hooker John Stewart has been retained in the starting XV for England Under-20s’ match away to Italy in Treviso. England will be looking to continue on from their 41-24 victory over Scotland in Round one.
England Under-20s’ Head Coach Alan Dickens said: “The players were pleased with the performance against Scotland, particularly their ability to take control of the second half.”
“We’ve have had another good week training and seen some new faces in camp. The level of competition within the squad is something I have been really impressed with.”
Craig Lilley said of John Stewart's inclusion: "John gets the chance to back up his performance against Scotland. Italy on their home soil is always a tricky challenge but a second away game on the bounce will give him some invaluable experiences as he continues to develop his game."
