The U12 competition was a fantastic spectacle for those in attendance, with the highly competitive fixtures providing a meaningful platform for youngsters to develop their rugby skills. It was an competition to watch as both sides played impressive rugby, showing great spirit right up until the final whistle.
In the U11 festival all teams displayed fantastic resolve and demonstrating the core values of the game throughout: - teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.
David Robinson, a coach from Reading Abbey RFC, was excited to be there on the day and spoke about the benefits of the programme and Reading Abbey’s relationship with Bath Rugby said: "It was a great opportunity to play teams from another area in a well organised tournament. Participating players at the festival also had the opportunity to meet Bath Rugby player Robbie Fruean who took time out of his schedule to watch the young teams as well as offer some coaching tips between games.
He commented on the importance of grassroots rugby: “It was great to see so many kids running around with smiles on their faces enjoying rugby. That what it is all about at that age.”
The young players of Chew Valley U12 came through as winners on the day and collected their prize of a trip to Twickenham for the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final on 27 May 2017.
