England scored eight tries on their way to a colossal 56-33 win over Australia to round off Pool B in the World Rugby U20 Championship.

Following an opening day defeat to Ireland and wins over Italy and Australia, Steve Bates’ side finished third in their group and will now face the Irish again in a bid to finish fifth in the competition.

De Glanville said: “I am really pleased with claiming another win. There was a good buzz around camp all week leading up to that game and even before the tournament the boys were really up for testing ourselves against Australia.

“It’s not often that you get to play them, so we were really happy with the win. I am really proud of the lads for sticking through it and we executed what we set out to do, we performed well and did ourselves justice.”

Ireland re-match

The 19-year-old found his way over the whitewash in a flourishing spell during the first-half against Australia and after claiming another win, he admitted that the side are looking to get the better of their northern hemisphere rivals.

He said: “It was nice to get off the mark, most of the work was done by the forward pack by getting us on the front foot so I had a clean run in from five metres.

“We felt it on the pitch, that was more of a normal England performance, the boys were much more relaxed and enjoying themselves. The pressure was off, and we were chucking the ball around and playing rugby how we wanted to and how we know how to.

“The whole squad are really excited for this, we owe Ireland one, they have beaten us twice in the last two encounters, so we really have to get stuck into them in this game and do ourselves justice because we haven’t done so before against Ireland.

“There are a few tactical wrongs that we need to put right from the last two times that we have played against Ireland. We know what to expect but they are a dynamic side, I think they will bring something different again.

“We need to couple that with our emotions of losing twice to them and hopefully we can come away with a result and finish as high as we possibly can.”

Australia triumph

After beating Pool B winners Australia, de Glanville was quick to credit the southern hemisphere side and proclaims that he will savour the moment.

He said: “We didn’t look into that too much, but we knew that they have a squad full of talented players, but we also knew that they would probably be quite tired after their first two games. It helped having our leaders on the pitch stepping up, giving good messages to the boys and that ultimately kept us going.

“It doesn’t happen often, we had to make the most of it and we didn’t expect that result at all to be honest. We were really happy with the result and how the game panned out so we will cherish that one.

“That is the nature of how the southern hemisphere sides play, especially Australia, they never back down so credit to them, they kept plucking away and getting back at us. It was only after a while that we started to pull away, but I think that red card was important in giving us that early momentum in the game.”
