Born in Batheaston during the Inter-World War years, Gordon was a livewire of a rugby player. Whilst he may not have had size on his side, he played with a huge amount of heart and had a powerful right boot.

He was a prolific goal kicker throughout his career – no mean feat considering the weight of the often-wet leather balls he had to boot!

His debut came as a 17-year-old on 10 February in 1945 against RAF Colerne and he immediately introduced himself with a first-half try which contributed to a 20-0 victory.

Gordon dedicated himself to the Blue, Black and White for 18 seasons and his time as a Bath player culminated on 19 September 1963 in a 20-3 win over Clifton at The Rec. It was 231^st appearance for the club’s senior XV.

Following his time at Bath, Gordon returned to local junior rugby, playing several seasons for Old Edwardians whose performances improved as a result.

He was a fine rugby player and a major part of Bath Rugby’s heritage. Our thoughts go out to Gordon’s friends and family at this deeply sad time; he will be sorely missed.

Gordon’s funeral will be held at 14:00 on Monday 9 January at Bathford Church.
