Bath Rugby 76-7 Bristol, 29 October 1996

Reigning Courage League champions Bath Rugby romped to victory at The Rec with a 76-7 win over Bristol.

Mike Catt gathered 22 points, including a full house of scoring actions, in an entertaining yet one-sided West Country derby.

Director of Rugby John Hall told the side ‘they weren’t allowed to kick!’ as he wanted free-flowing rugby and that is what he got with Adedayo Adebayo, Charlie Harrison, Jonathan Sleightholme, Henry Paul (2) (pictured) and Jeremy Guscott (2) adding to Catt’s try from a back persuasion.

Forwards Dave Hilton, Andy Robinson and Brian Cusack also crossed the whitewash for the Blue, Black and White with Paul Hull’s converted score proving a mere consolation for Bristol.

Bath Rugby 45-8 Bristol, 7 March 2009

Bath Rugby scored six tries and Butch James kicked 15 points in an emphatic victory over Bristol.

Joe Maddock marked his 100th appearance with two tries – the first a beauty from 40 metres. His second came after Bristol scored their eight points for the match through a Lee Robinson try and Ed Barnes penalty.

It was all Bath from then on. Alex Crockett (pictured) scored twice and there was a penalty try was also awarded to Bath for their forward dominance. James finished with seven successful kicks from eight attempts to complete a more than satisfactory afternoon.

Bath Rugby 29-27 Bristol Bears, 5 March 2022

There is nothing like a bit of drama in the derby to make bragging rights ever so sweeter!

Tom de Glanville crossed for a try with the clock in the red to seal victory for Bath over Bristol last season.

Bears had raced into a comfortable 21-0 lead with Harry Thacker grabbing a double and Ratu Naulago also on the scoresheet. The wing was the sent off for a high shot before Semesa Rokoduguni dived into the corner in reply for the hosts.

Callum Sheedy kicked a penalty on the stroke of half-time to extend Bristol’s advantage but back came Bath in the second period. First Jonathan Joseph provided hope and then Taulupe Faletau followed suit.

Joe Cokanasiga had a score disallowed before acrobatically finishing with eight minutes remaining before de Glanville sent The Rec into pandemonium in the dying embers of the match.
